Virginia R. Salvi

LEOMINSTER - Virginia R. Salvi, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024. She lived a long, beautiful life and left everyone she met an unforgettable feeling in their heart.

Virginia was born on Nov. 30, 1927, in Leominster, the daughter of Dominic and Julia (Giambrocco) Sambito. Her father was born in Sicily, Italy and her mother was born in the North End of Boston.

She lived in Leominster most of her childhood, moving with her family to Littleton at the age of 14. She graduated from Littleton High School in 1945, where she proudly wore her favorite number 7, as the captain of the girls’ basketball team.

Virginia loved to sing and dance with all her friends. During that time, she met her true love, Leo “Lee” Salvi, whom she enjoyed 39 wonderful years of marriage with. Leo predeceased her in 1987 at the age of 59.

She leaves behind four children, Lee Salvi, Steve Salvi and his wife Candi (Nicholson), Marty Salvi and his wife Jane (Rogers), and Donna (Salvi) Penning and her husband Robert Penning; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Torres-Santana, Jayson Salvi, Jaime Salvi, Brian Galloto, Kerri Salvi, Kristofer Salvi, David Salvi, and Richard “Ricky” Greene and his dog, Neely whom they spent many nights enjoying suppers and sleepovers at Grammy’s house; ten great-grandchildren, Priscilla, Marilyn, Jeffrey, Livia, Kayleigh, Savannah, Ryan, Aurora, Zarina, and Elara; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly; and her sister, Julia (Sambito) Furbush, of Tennessee. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Wilson Sambito, Arthur Sambito, Dominic Sambito, Jr., twins Anthony Sambito, and Marino Sambito, and her sisters, Camille (Sambito) Posco and Ruth (Sambito) Bussiere.

Virginia adored her family and loved spending time with them. Some of her fondest memories with family and friends included summer vacations at York Beach, Maine or just sitting in her comfortable summer room that she enjoyed entertaining in. There is nothing more that she loved than hosting Christmas Eve for close friends and her family.

She worked for the Leominster Chamber of Commerce for 26 years, finishing her career as a secretary at Biomedical Polymers, until her retirement in 1994.

Shortly after retiring, Virginia’s love for music and dancing brought her to meet her later-in-life companion, Joseph “Joe” Brindisi of Worcester, a jazz musician. They spent 28 years together doing what they loved most, traveling, dancing, and attending music events before his passing in May of 2023. Joe’s children and grandchildren were a special part of Virginia’s and her family’s lives and she held them close to her heart.

There are not enough words to thank Virginia’s care team at Reliant Medical Group; especially Dr. Schneeweis, the nurses and doctors at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Hospital/Leominster and Life Care Center of Leominster. You are all angels on earth. In lieu of flowers, and because of Virginia’s love for music, all donations can be made payable to the Leominster High School Chorus and mailed to or dropped off at 122 Granite St. Leominster, MA 01453.
