OBITUARY FOR SISTER MARY LUKE MULRANEY
Sister Mary Luke, formally known in secular life as Margaret Mary Mulraney, died at Notre Dame Nursing and Rehabilitation, Worcester, MA. November 24, 2023.
Sister was born in Providence, RI, January 31,1926 to Luke E and Elizabeth (Reilley) Mulraney and grew up in Holy Trinity Parish, Central Falls, RI.
Sister Mary Luke entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in September 1942 and made her Final Profession of Vows in August 1948.
As her health began to fail, she resided at St Patrick’s Nursing Home for several years before transferring recently to Notre Dame in Worcester, where other members of her Presentation Community reside
She graduated from Catholic Teacher’s College in Providence, RI earning a Bachelor of Education. Sister received a CAGS in Library Science from Regis College Weston, MA, . Sister was asked to become Community Archivist so attended many weekend courses to prepare for this position.
Sister’s ministry as teacher/ librarian, brought her to several schools in Massachusetts including St. Patrick’s in Whitinsville; St. Mary’s {Ayer); St. Bernard’s HS , Holy Family (Fitchburg); and St. Louis (Webster); in Connecticut St. Mary’s (Stamford); St. Catherine’s (Riverside); and Holy Trinity School in Central Falls, RI
Sister Mary Luke served the Community as Archivist both in NY and MA for many years before retiring.
Sister is pre-deceased by her parents Luke and Elizabeth Mulraney and a sister, Elizabeth Partridge.
Along with her Presentation Community, Sister Mary Luke is survived by nieces: Maureen Marcoux, Kathleen Burke (John), Marguerite and two nephews: Thomas Partridge (wife, Patricia), Russell Partridge (wife, Elaine) and several grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curley-Marchand Funeral Home, West St, Leominster, MA
Gathering in the Presence of the Body and Visitation will be held DECEMBER 1, 2023 @ 9:30 AM at Notre Dame du Lac Chapel 555 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01605
The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg.
