Suzanne Langen Carroll, September 19, 1933 - December 27, 2023
On December 27, 2023, Suzanne Langen Carroll, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Sue was known by many names, but her favorite was Grandma. While she spent the later years of her life in Shrewsbury, MA, her hometown of Leominster, where she was born in 1933, was always close to heart. It’s where she raised her family along with her husband of 60 years, Jerry Lloyd Carroll. In fact, Sue passed one day before her 60th wedding anniversary, but Jerry, in honor of their special day, was able to give her violets, her favorite flower, just hours before she passed.
Sue graduated from Leominster High School in 1951 and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Fitchburg State College. She was the first special education teacher in Leominster Public Schools and was so beloved by her students that they remained in touch with her for decades later.
Sue had the remarkable and natural ability to connect with anyone she met. She loved and was loved, and the numerous lives she touched were all the better for it. Her favorite things were first and foremost her family and friends, but she also could get lost in a book – ideally looking out at the ocean from the coast of Maine. Her devotion to her Catholic faith was woven through every aspect of her life.
Sue was the matriarch of the family. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of Shrewsbury, MA; her daughter, Erin Carroll, and her husband, Richard Fitzhenry of Hyde Park, VT; her son, Patrick, and his wife, Anita (Schoenig) Carroll of Shrewsbury, MA, and their children Kathryn, Jameson and Riley; her son, Brian Carroll, and his wife, Tina Nunez, Santa Maria, CA, and their children Aidan, Sarah and Seamus; and her daughter, Shannon Carroll, of Providence, RI. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces who loved her dearly. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Willam and Helen Langen, her brothers, James and Brian, and her beloved goddaughter and niece, Kelly Langen Arciprete.
Sue’s family would like to thank the caregivers of Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Notre Dame Hospice for the compassionate care and friendship they provided to Sue during the final months of her life.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday January 4 from THE CURLEY MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 89 West St. Leominster with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Leo's Church, 108 Main St. Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Leo's Cemetery Leominster.
Calling Hours for her will be on Thursday (Jan4) from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Notre Dame Health Care Center, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA.
