FITCHBURG: Robert Anthony O'Connell 82, passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 27, 2022. He was born in Fitchburg, MA on June 13, 1940. Bob graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in 1958. He then graduated from Fitchburg State Teachers College and went on to complete his master's at Boston College. He spent most of his teaching career in the Fitchburg Public School system. Bob had a great passion for his family, faith and friends. He enjoyed working with the Irish American Club, even being President for many years. He was an active part of the Friends of Coggshall Park, a place he loved dearly. Bob was a Trustee of the Fitchburg Public Library for many years and an active member of the Friends of the Fitchburg Public Library. He spent his entire life as a faithful member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, always willing to help serve in his faith. His hobbies included golfing, traveling with Ann to St. John's with their best friends and tending to his amazing gardens with Ann at his side.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann F. O'Connell, whom he married on August 14th, 1965. His two daughters Maureen A. O'Connell of Milford, MA and Maryellen O. Bangert of Milford, MA, his son in law, Mark D. Bangert and his three grandchildren, Hannah M. Bangert, Meghan E. Bangert and Caitlyn R. Bangert, all from Milford. He is predeceased by his parents, Hannah M. O'Connell (Sheehan) and John O'Connell from Fitchburg, his brothers John O'Connell from Keene, NH and Richard O'Connell from Fitchburg, and his son Sean R. O'Connell from Fitchburg.

Robert Anthony O’Connell: His Funeral will be held on Thursday June 30, with a Mass at St. Bernard’s at St. Camillus Church,333 Mechanic St. Fitchburg, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery Fitchburg. A Calling Hour will be held at St. Bernard’s Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
