Monserrate “Monsie” Ruiz, 97, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, in her home in Leominster, MA, surrounded by the love of her family.
She is survived by her sister, Rosa Vasquez; her daughters, Judith Irizarry of Leominster, MA, Elizabeth Bromes and her husband Earnest of Leominster, and Aida Ramos of Hanover, MA; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Born on January 12, 1928, to Primitivo and Porfiria (Elias) Ruiz in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Monsie spent her early years surrounded by close family and the rich traditions of her hometown. In April of 1945, she married Luperto Laguer Gonzalez, and together they raised their three daughters.
In 1946, Monsie and Luperto moved to the Bronx, New York, in search of new opportunities for their growing family. Monsie worked for many years in the plastics industry as a molder. She later retired from Paragon Plastics in Leominster, MA, but continued to work alongside her daughter Judith at Leominster Clean Rite until 2019.
When she wasn’t working, Monsie found her greatest joy in being with her family, to whom she was deeply devoted. A gifted cook, she loved preparing traditional Puerto Rican dishes—especially her famous pasteles and arroz con gandules—which brought everyone together and filled her home with warmth.
Monsie touched countless lives with her gentle smile, generous heart, and unwavering kindness.
Calling hours and a funeral service will be held at Curley-Marchand Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
