Gregory “Greg” P. Miller, 63, of Sterling, passed away at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by his family on Friday, May 16, following a tragic accident.
Born January 24, 1962, in Leominster, Greg was the son of Leanne (Wass) Miller and Peter F. Miller. Greg, a 1980 graduate of Leominster High School, was extremely proud of his Leominster roots. He deeply cherished his memories growing up on Orchard Street with his siblings and neighbors, resulting in dozens of stories that have been told (and retold) as fixtures of Miller family lore.
Greg attended Mount Wachusett Community College and the Butera School of Art in Boston. Creating and appreciating art were some of Greg’s greatest passions. Amongst his many specialties were sign graphics and painting. His beautiful paintings adorn the walls of the homes of his friends and family.
Another one of Greg’s passions was music. He played various instruments and loved listening to his extensive cassette tape and CD collection. Greg attended countless concerts throughout his life (and saved the tickets from every one), with a favorite venue being the infamous Rathskeller (known as “The Rat”) in Kenmore Square.
Greg was an employee of Kappy’s Liquors in Fitchburg for over 20 years, where he was known for his sense of humor and kindness by his co-workers and patrons.
Greg’s greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured family vacations and gatherings, attending sports events and performances, pool parties and BBQs, and taking the family dogs, Brady and Beatrice, for trail walks. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, whether it was going for a Sunday car ride to get coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts, watching one of his favorite Three Stooges shorts, or sitting on the back deck watching and listening to the birds.
Greg will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 34 years, Debra Donston-Miller, and his daughters Caitlin (Miller) Grady and her husband Thomas of Leominster and Claire Miller and her girlfriend Caroline of Auburn. He is survived by his brothers Peter Miller and his fiancee Betsy of York, Maine, and Jack Miller and his partner Carlos of Barnstable. He leaves behind sisters Karen White and her husband Mike of Templeton and Nancy Cosentino and her husband Don of Ashburnham. Greg also dearly loved his nieces and nephews and, in the last few years, their children. Greg had recently welcomed a grandson, Jack Patrick Grady, and was over the moon to be “Grampy.” It is also testament to who Greg was that he leaves behind dozens of lifelong and new friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 23, from 4-7 p.m. at the Curley-Marchand Funeral Home, 89 West St., Leominster. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m., also at the Curley-Marchand Funeral Home, followed by a get-together at the Wachusett Brewyard, 175 State Road East, Westminster. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Greg’s name to NEADS World Class Service Dogs of Princeton.
